Some of the retreats are held in Monte Velho, a beautiful guesthouse that
sits in one of the most stunning areas of Portugal (Carrapateria).
Monte Velho is situated on a hill overlooking the very southwest
of Europe, which boasts a beautiful landscape and an ocean that offers one of
the most spectacular surf breaks.
Life in Monte Velho is kept down to earth, but it is an upmarket
place that could as well be an art gallery instead. The bungalows
are very cozy and warm with extremely comfortable beds. It’s your
decision if you want to stay in a single room or share with one of the other retreat holidayers.

The Yoga Surf Holidays and some of the Yoga Detox Retreat are held in Algarveyoga's Lotus Center in Burgau, situated right at the beach in a beautiful original picturesque fishing village on the south coast.

Thanks to the excellent location of both of the venues, you have a great
choice of spare time activities. It is of course always recommended
to relax as much as possible, but we have at our disposal:
The Algarve's west and south coast (one of the best spots for surfing in Europe); beautiful hiking and bike tracks; bird watching; holistic horse riding; canoeing; and of course swimming in the ocean.
There is a difference between the two retreat venues of Monte Velho and the Lotus Center. Of course, both venues have a unique charm. Monte Velho sits on a beautiful hill upon the rugged west coast of Portugal. It is situated in the hills and sits in a serene protected wilderness area. You can see the ocean from Monte Velho, but it is a 30 minute walk to the beach. Monte Velho is more up market and more luxury than the Lotus Center. The space is larger, and there is plenty of room to relax. All the rooms at Monte Velho are en suite, and the bedrooms and bathrooms are cleaned every day by the Monte Velho staff.
The Retreats at the Lotus Center are more roots. The Lotus Center is located in the center of Burgau, a lovely old fishing village. The rooms are equally nice, but the bathrooms are shared. If you wish to have your own bathroom though, please enquire with us, as this is possible. The Lotus Center has more of a feeling of communal living, as the space is smaller and much of the activity goes on outdoors. There is a lovely garden that is a perfect spot for relaxation. The outdoor patio is perfect for yoga, as is the lovely yoga studio. The ocean is right at the footstep of the Lotus center, and the hilly countryside is ideal for day walks and hikes.
We do highly recommend however that you stay clear of activities
that interfere with the high-energy build up from your holiday programme. To get the full
benefit it is best to refrain from taking alcohol, nicotine or
any other drugs for the duration of your stay, especially in the
yoga detox holidays.

Arrival at the venue for all holidays will be Sunday, between 2pm and 6pm. Evening and departure Saturday morning after breakfast. The closest airport to fly to is Faro, 1.15 hours to the Lotus Center in Burgau, 1.30 hours to Monte Velho in Carrapateira. |
